8/23/2025 – Mixed Grazon as done in 2023 and spread with Ag Sprayer at 20 psi running Fergie in 1H at 1500 RPMs. That was wrong. Only covered the heavy weeds around the edges. Mixed 5 gallons more (1 pint of Grazon), finished the edges, and could only hit the broadleaf weeds in the center of the field. WHY?????
The mistake was that the engine RPM of 1500 was too low as I misunderstood earlier rate tests as saying the engine RPM was to be 540 which is far too low. So, today I assumed there was a typo in my printed copy of the 4/21/2023 post, i.e., it should have been 1500.
On the page for the fertilizer spreader here is a later entry for a retest on 2/21/2024 of Fergie’s ground speed and the RPM in 1H for 3 FPS is 2100 RPM.
The post for the last spraying of the field in 2023 here has now been edited to reflect what must have happened and not mislead me again as happened today. The edited entry in that post is:
At 30 psi going 3 MPH (1H with engine at 2100 RPM) it should spray 11.4 gal/ac over a max 30-foot swath. [NOTE: The engine RPM cited [in that post] was edited on 8/24/2024 to correlate with the ground speed test on 2/21/2024 recorded here.]
Summary for the Next (after 2025) Spraying of Grazon:
- Run Fergie in 1H at 2100 RPM to go 3 MPH
- Set the Sprayer to 30 PSI for the 3 boom sprayers
- In the Ag Sprayer sprayer mix:
- 12 gallons of water
- 1.5 pints of Grazon per the label for 1 acre and that is the upper end of the range.
- 6 oz. nonionized surfactant
