9/12/2021 – The fall corn, like the spring corn on the west side of the garden, has yellow streaks in the leaves. Based on info in the links below that is due to magnesium and sulfur deficiencies. Epson salts could be the cure and so all leaves were sprayed to drip with a 2 Tbsp/gallon solution. Note that while the EP was being sprayed several tassels were about to emerge.
9/17/2021 – 5 days later it looks a lot better. Sidedressed this date that is posted separately.

Below is what much of ours looks like.
Some of our leaves look like Potassium (K) deficiencies with the leaf edges yellow and brown.
If a positive effect is not seen then apply potassium.

- What form does sulfur need to be in to be available for uptake by the corn crop? In order for S to be available for the corn crop to use, it must be in the form of sulfate (SO4). That is the form in Epsom Salts.
- S is also immobile within the plant, which means the plant is unable to compensate for low levels of S that may occur late in the season by moving S from older growth to new growth. Therefore, if a steady supply of S is unavailable over the entire season, late-season S deficiencies can significantly impact yield, since S already in the plant cannot be moved for use in the growth of new leaves and grain. Will likely need to respray if a positive affect occurs.
