Installed 3″ concealed light over sink

Homestead

10/3/2025 – To remove the shadows when standing at the sink but not add another 6″ downlight that would be too much we ordered from Amazon a 3″ light that is the same model as the others. Topaz LED 3 Inch Slim Fit Round Recessed Downlight, 8W, Ceiling Light with Junction Box, 5CCT Selectable 2700K,3000K,3500K,4000K,5000K, White.

Amazon Order # 111-1227330-4311425.

Easy installation other than having to sort out adding it to the 3-way circuit. ChatGPT helped a lot by explaining how 3-way switches were wired in the past, with no neutrals run to the fixtures. Chat said there is a wiring known as “Switch Loop (No Neutral at Ceiling Box — common in older 3-way circuits)”.

I finally understood that the white and black wires have to run continually to the last fixture, and a branch off to the new 3″ cannot be added. So, there is now a yellow Romex and a white Romex that run from the north-most original downlight to preserve an uninterrupted path to the last fixture. There is now a black plastic JBox above the original 6″ Topaz downlight, connecting the “new” white Romex (that goes to the new 3″ fixture) to one of the original Romex connecting to the 6″ that no longer connects to that fixture.

The yellow Romex connects the new 3″ to the quick-connects at the 6″.

Mary is very happy.
