3/29/2020 – The PEPH and Kentucky Wonder Bush bean germination is very poor and the okra seeds (saved from okra grown last year) has not germinated…but that could be just okra.
There has been no rain since 3/3/2020–3.5 weeks–but we have watered everything at least every other day.
Soil temps taken this afternoon with the ChefWorks instant-read meat probe, 3″ down were:
- PEPH peas – Min 40 F; Opt 75 F; Max 85. 5-7 days.
- Actuals today were 92, 90, 91
- Sowed 3/17/20, 12 days ago.
- Okra – Min 40 F; Opt 75 F; Max 106. 7-12 days.

- Kentucky Wonder Bush Beans. Min 60, Opt 80F, Max 95. 4-10 days.

- Squash that is coming up timely – Opt 95 –
- Actuals were 86, 83
Hind Sight – The actual temps taken above were the highs but the lows must have signaled the seeds it was not time to germinate. Plan to base spring sowing on low temps and fall sowing on highs.
3/30/2020, 7 AM – Soil temps were in the high 60’s in rows that were damp from watering as well as those not watered yesterday afternoon. In general, there was a 25 degree drop in soil temps in 14 hours. A cool front blew in yesterday afternoon when the air temp was in the high 80s to this morning when it is 62 F.
