Sprayed Azaleas for Lacebugs and Citrus for Aphids
5/2/2019 – Sprayed Azaleas for Lacebugs with Sevin Concentrate. Also sprayed the 4 citrus trees in the SW corner of the yard and the one at the garden to be sure the last spray for aphids got them. Applied almost three gallons.
Continue ReadingSprayed Roses for Black Spot with Mancozeb
4/30/2019 – The black spot has become worse on especially one of the Knock Outs in front to the Guest Room Window. But, I had sprayed it with Spectracide Systemic Fungicide last week. As the Rust is already looking like it is far less on the daylilies, Mary wanted to spray the roses with Mancozeb. […]
Continue ReadingSprayed Daylilies for Rust
4/28/2019 – We realized the daylilies along the front of the house where the drip hoses operated daily had developed Rust–some more than others. The ones at the drip hose were the worst. Those we moved from there recently took the rust to the bed along the road/fence; but not too much. Hopefully, we found/learned […]
Continue ReadingAzalea & Daylily Relocations plus Japonica
4/27/2019 – We bought an Encore Autumn Princess intermediate size azalea and planted it where we had planted the dwarf Encore Autumn Fire; i.e the SE corner bed in the front yard. Now the two Encores will be the same size. We planted the Autumn Fire in the backyard at the undeveloped gap between the […]

The Basis and the Plan Soil test says to fertilize the grass with 6 lbs. per 1,000 SF of 15-0-15. ACES says here for a low maintenance lawn apply 1/2 lb. nitrogen per 1,000 SF three times per year. So to get 0.5 lb nitrogen with 15-0-15 would equate to: Amount of Fertilizer = (0.5 […]
Continue ReadingMore “Concoction” on Roses
4/17/2019 – Mary is calling the feeding dilution blend of fish emulsion, iron chelate, and Miracle Grow–this time it was with Super Bloom–Tom’s Concoction. The blend was 1 Tbs of each per gallon of water as we made the bulk blend put on the roses, daylilies, and other plants last week. This concoction came from […]
Continue ReadingMulched All Flower Beds
4/12/2019 – Place 2.5 CY of crushed pine bark mulch in the daylily and plumbago parts to the long bed. This will hopefully complete this large area for the spring/summer. There was a lot to do before this to clean out the wildflower mess, till the soil, divide the daylilies, expand the bed, and then […]
Continue ReadingFirst Bulk Tank Plant Feeding
4/11/2019 – This feeding was inspired by the Hooker Formula and other variations. The first application went well and we will tweak the set up for next time. We plan to re-feed sooner than Hooker as we ended up putting on less than planned. As of 5/8/2019, there is a great improvement in leaf color […]
Continue ReadingOld Tub & Soap Pot as Planters
4/11/2019 – We completed setting up one of the old tubs as a planter next to the “porch” at the grain bin. Filled it with the good topsoil from the pile made by the patio contractor. Mary planted seeds from SESE in it. Nasturtium, Jewel Mixed – right middle African Marigold, Crackerjack Mix – left […]
