Shook original Sevin with Carbaryl dust on the silks of the 2nd and 3rd plantings of corn. About half the ears of the corn from the 1st planting have earworms in the very tip; i.e. just starting.

Continue ReadingA few of the peas had dried to a yellow husk but most were filled out nicely and shelled well. Got from the five rows enough for a meal. There will be many more soon.
Continue ReadingFound the 2nd and 3rd tomatoes to ripen also had blossom end rot as did the first one several days ago. The other green ones do not but to hopefully prevent more I watered all of them with lime dissolved in water. Using a hand trowel put a half scoop of No. 6 lime into […]

Continue ReadingPer the advice being followed I sprayed the peppers for the second time with a solution of a rounded tablespoon of Epsom Salts to one gallon of water and added about a tablespoon of Dawn Ultra per gallon. Several plants now have a few blooms. Maybe the Epsom salts […]

Continue ReadingThe original planting of cantaloupes (about row 14) have many blooms and a few 1-2″ fruits. We had not side-dressed them so did so today with 15-0-15 plus iron. Scratched the dirt 8-12′ either side–after pulling back the vines in most cases–and dropped in a small handful of the fertilizer. Covered it up and watered […]
Continue ReadingI realized I had not applied the second side dressing to the 2nd and 3rd planting of corn. The second planting is tasseled and some have early silk. The third planting has a few tassels. Side dressed with 34-0-0 plus about 20% lime. Also, side dressed the Silver King Corn only a little late as […]
