Sprayed Algaecide on Pond’s Edge, Feb. 2024

Pond

2/14/2024 – Filamentous algae have become too much on along the south shore. Sunrise temp was 32 this morning and the day is to be clear and sunny. Waited to mid-afternoon.

From the label:

  • “For best results, Cutrine Plus Algaecide should be applied during calm and sunny conditions when water temperature is at least 60ºF. “
  • “Typical dilution range is 9:1 when using backpack-type sprayer”

For the 2-gallon sprayer, there would be 16 pints of water or 32 cups. 32/9 = 3.55 cups of chemical in 2 gallons of water. As 3.55 cups of CU will reduce the water to 32-3.55 pints need to reduce the tank to 28.5 pints of water. 28.5/9=3.16 cups should be added to the tank and then filled with 2 gallons of water.

So add 1.5 pints of CU in the tank and then fill to 2 gallons to provide approximately the 9:1 mix.

Chk – (16-1.5)/9 = 1.61 pints so 1.5 will be a little less than the max recommended.

Results – On 2/20/2024 the majority of the algae is dead. Mixed more and sprayed an area 10+ feet off the south shore plus the north shoreline.
