Continue ReadingThe powdery mildew has returned to the yellow squash leaves in the same plants as before; i.e. the 2nd and 3rd from the road fence. Application to the tomatoes and marigolds is preventative although the marigolds along the orchard fence seem to have a problem that is not bug related.
Continue ReadingFound the 2nd and 3rd tomatoes to ripen also had blossom end rot as did the first one several days ago. The other green ones do not but to hopefully prevent more I watered all of them with lime dissolved in water. Using a hand trowel put a half scoop of No. 6 lime into […]
Continue Reading6/25/3019 about 10 AM – Sprayed Epsom Salts at 2 T/gallon on the tomatoes and all peppers. Given it is hot and the sun is bright I did not spray to drip. The tomatoes are large, many starting to turn light green, and a few pinkish red. The bell peppers are still not doing anything, […]
Continue Reading6/25/2019 – The small ML Tomatoes Mary rooted and we planted in Row 16 were getting tall and falling over on the hay/mulch. Even the ones that were not touching the hay developed black spots that appears to be a fungus. Tied them up with string and sprayed them to drip with liquid copper fungicide.

The concept is that the calcium in the lime is absorbed through the leaves and helps with water absorption and thereby helps prevent blossom end rot. We only found one last week with the rot […]
Continue ReadingI realized I had not applied the second side dressing to the 2nd and 3rd planting of corn. The second planting is tasseled and some have early silk. The third planting has a few tassels. Side dressed with 34-0-0 plus about 20% lime. Also, side dressed the Silver King Corn only a little late as […]
Continue ReadingA month or so ago Mary planted the last of the Mortgage Lifter seeds in some 2″ seedling squares. They have far outgrown the little pots. Perhaps due to our neglect other than watering them and leaving them outside. They are 12-14″ high with white nodules on the stalks where roots are trying to form […]
Continue ReadingRow 15 has six Amelia bush tomatoes that have small green tomatoes but have blown over, lying on their branches on one side. Installed three T-posts and the hi-tensile wire then tied each with two strings. Most have more than two main vines so the larger two were supported.
Continue ReadingSide dressed the okra with 34-0-0 at the same rate as done for the corn–see those photos. The corn had some Corn Flea Beetles darting about and a little leaf damage like is the result of Stewart’s Wilt. Sprayed ALL the corn with Sevin. Installed three T-posts, the wire and garden string to hold up […]
