Spring 2023 Fertilized Yard

Yard

The Plan from 6/10/2021, applied in Spring 2022 and modified for this Spring

The modified route this year is in the plan below where the length is about 1900 feet for a 39-foot width. There were places in that route where no fertilizer was spread. That equates to a theoretical 74 KSF = 1.7 acres that should have been the area covered. The area actually covered was about 53 KSF (1.2 ac) so some got hit twice; i.e. 0.5 ac. 0.5 is 42% over run.

Based on the calculations and tests here for the new spreader it was set on 3 for one pass when running in Gear 1H at 540 RPM.

ACES says here for a low-maintenance lawn apply ½ lb. nitrogen per 1,000 SF three times per year. So to get 0.5 lb nitrogen with 15-0-15 would require spreading per 1,000 SF 0.5/0.15 = 3.33 lbs/1,000 SF of 15-0-15. The 15-0-15 contains 2% iron. So, that rate over the actual area is 3.33×53= 176 lbs to spread. But, 3 sacks or 150 lbs were actually spread. So, that is 26 out of 150 under application; or about 18%.

All that implies some areas were covered lightly (where they were only hit once) and some too much.

Did not mix in Extinguish as plan to spread it via the cyclone seeder to be more accurate.

Not mixing in the Extinguish made it a lot easier.

Approximate route with too much overlap

After this application, the image below was prepared to remind me what the 39-foot swath covers. It is also on the Spreader page under Equipment.

The red lines are 39 feet long; i.e. the spreader’s swath/throw.
