Sprayed WFZ on Yard on Feb 28 & Followup

Yard

2/28/2024 – Using info from last year it was sprayed after greening (too late) so sprayed the lawn with Fertilome’s Weed Free Zone (WFZ) now. WFZ kills/controls Florida Betony, Spiderwort, and Creeping Charlie which are major issues this year…as usual.

3/2/2024 – With the backpack sprayer, sprayed the edges, spiderwort that did not look sick, and the Kitchen Yard with 1.5 oz/gallon of WFZ.

2/21/2024 – Retested Fergie’s run time in the Pecan Orchard between 5 trees (200) feet. Running in 1H gear at 2100 RPM she covered the 200 ft in about 34 seconds which is 3 MPH. That is a good speed for the yard and small pasture.

Today’s Plan

  • Apply the upper end of the range at 1.25 oz/KSF for WFZ for 1,000 SF. The Label says the range is 0.75 – 1.5 fl. oz. per KSF.
  • For Fergie at 2100 RPM in Gear 1H she goes 3 MPH. Approximate tip height: 33”.
  • From Ag-Sprayer chart – 3 MPH at 40 psi puts out 0.30 Gallons/1000 SF.
  • Areas to spray – 15,500+3,000+5,000+4,000+4,600+5,000(misc) = 37,100 SF. See the layout below.
  • The Mix
    • Water amount required will be 0.3 gal x 37.1 KSF = 11.1 gallons
    • Nonionic Surfactant at 1 TBSP/Gallon for 11 gallons = 0.7 Cups (16 Tbsp in a cup)
    • WFZ at 1.25 oz/KSF for 37.1 KSF = 46 oz.

Results

Spraying – The area to be sprayed was covered plus the weedy area in the south end of the barnyard and the spiderwort in the orchard next to the yard fence. Did not spray on the east side of the barn. Still need to mix some in the backpack sprayer and hit the kitchen yard and edges around the front yard.

Weed kill – As of 3/14 had a good knockdown to spiderwort and some damage to Florida Betony in the grass.

3/14/2024 – Sprayed purple broadleaf et al with WFZ in the backpack in the west yard, barnyard & other places. These were areas missed and avoided in the Fergie mass spray above such as the areas near the Lady Bed. 3 gallons were applied.
