6/5/2023 – Digger Creel gave us 5 Elephant Garlic blubs with dead leaves and blooms he pulled up from his garden yesterday. Following advice here and here they were planted 4-6 inches deep after cutting off the bloom stems and leaves leaving about 10 inches so about 6 inches is sticking above the soil. The center stem that is still green smells great.
As this is the wrong time to plant them and they are in the wrong state of development they were not split into cloves. The hope is they will finish growing making more babies on the sides and more cloves. The plan is to pull them in July or August and prepare for a fall planting.
They were planted in the wide flower/onion row on the west edge of the north half.
