2/26/2026 – Applied ten 40-lb. bags of Austinville Pelletized Dolomitic LawnLime. Ran in 4M at 2350-RPM/PTO-540RPM and it threw 20-ft either side of center, but should have required 2 passes, but the lime only lasted ~1.3 passes. The easternmost 40-foot pass got twice what the rest of it got. Below are my preparatory calculations, where something must be wrong.
Immediately after spreading it, disked it in.
From their Product Analysis sheet – “This product requires 1844 lbs. to equal one ton of standard liming material (with CCE of 90%).”
For our 0.2 acre garden (not including turn rows) with the soil test report recommending one ton of standard lime per acre, we need to apply 0.2 x 1844 = 368 lbs = 9.22 40# bags.
The Plan for lime based on our spreader’s performance here:
Gate at 5 – THIS WAS THE PLAN THAT WAS NOT RIGHT
- Run in 4M with the PTO RPM at 540, (engine at 2350 RPM) traveling at 2.23 MPH, which is slower than the 3 MPH level in the spread’s chart
- Set gate at 5 to spread 3/2.23 MPH x 697 lbs = 937 lbs/ac
- Make two passes to put out about 1,900 lbs/ac, which is close to 1 T/ac. – UPDATE: THERE WAS ONLY ENOUGH FOR 1.3 PASSES.
Gate at 4 – DID NOT USE THIS PLAN
- Run in 4M with the PTO RPM at 540, traveling at 2.23 MPH, which is slower than the 3 MPH level in the spread’s chart
- Set gate at 4 to spread 3/2.23 MPH x 297 lbs = 400 lbs/ac
- That rate would require 5 passes to spread 1 T/ac
