First Day in 2023 in Garden Sowing & Planting

3/31/2023 – Disked the garden to kill the tiny weeds starting to come back, prepared the sunflower swath, and pulled up 4 rows with the hiller in the south half, west side. The rows are wider than the 42-inch standard by about 12-14 inches as the rear tire was run beside the previous track.

13-13-13 was spread between the tracks and then hilled. The following was planted and sowed:

  1. In the Seeds saved from last year’s Beach Sunflowers and the large ones were spread by hand and then raked in.
  2. In the first hilled row next to the sunflowers set out Celebrity tomatoes bought at G&D and Better Boy seedlings grown from seeds.
  3. In the second hilled row planted 2 Big Boy tomatoes and four Better Boys. Then 2 “sweet pepper plants. Reserving the remainder of the row for the peppers in the greenhouse.
  4. In the third row from the sunflowers planted broccoli plants on the north end then sowed seeds.
  5. In the fourth row sowed Cheers Cabbage and Sun Angel Spinach.
