Very white field of cotton, a new well and cutting down all the Chinese tallow in the little pond are the high lites of this holiday.
Wednesday, 11/23/16 – Moved the lumber from the grain bin to pole barn and added what we hauled in. Rearranged the grain bin and added two 4×8 sheets of plywood on the floor. Shoveled up the sand and drilling mud around the new well and filled holes in the yard.
Thursday, Thanksgiving – Used Fergie and mowed weeds in little pond around the dying tallow trees. Both ponds are very dry. Spread a bag of Bayer fungicide on the brown spots in the front yard. Watered it in.
Ate Thanksgiving lunch at Mandy’s. Walked to the creek field, along Mary’s Branch and to the fence then into the trees to the creek. Can see large kudzu vines and grape vines that need to be kill. Of course, there is a lot of tallow that could easily be cut off at the ground and sprayed. Briars in the field are coming back from Ted having mowed in September. Need a 3-pt hitch sprayer and glyphosate.
Friday – After hanging blinds in the MB and guest room we began cutting tallow and piling in the burn pile location where Ted had burned the last pile. Quit at 3:30 exhausted. I had sawed all the tallow in the wood fence down and Mary had pulled it to the burn pile with Fergie.
Saturday – Rearranged the blocks supporting the pump house given the new pump installed by Ed Williams. Cut a service door in the west wall.
Cut down the remaining tallow trees in the little pond area and began dragging them to the pile and windrowing along the cotton. Then Ted came to load and feed hay, saw what we were doing and used his JD front end loader to stack all on the north side of the fence into a new pile and what on the south side of the wood fence moved into the original pile. Made short work of it for us.
Sunday – Fixed the wood fence on cross-tie posts where the tallow trees had been and damaged it. Used the split board left from building the fence along the road. Picked up limbs and watched the Driskells finish picking the cotton.
Note – Use of 2-4-D in September mixed with glyphosate worked on the ditch bank.
