Sowed Broccoli and Spinach

Gardening

10/23/2020 – The hill was drawn three days ago and today a deep V-groove was made with the hoe. Dropped in 8-8-8 with Borax and raked the soil back over it.

In the south half, sowed Waltham 29 Broccoli (2019 seed) in the south end of Row 10.

  1. Used the PVC drop tube, dragging about 1″ deep while Mary dropped seeds in when I stopped about every 6″.
  2. Used the garden rake to pull soil on top of the seeds.
  3. Used the Chapin seeder’s back wheel to firm the soil over the seeds.
  4. Watered the row moderately.

Sowed Bloomsdale Spinach in the north half of that row.

  1. Pulled a 1″ deep V slot with the hoe. Used the PVC drop tube and Mary dropped in seeds every 2-3″ as best we could guess.
  2. Used the garden rake to pull soil on top of the seeds.
  3. Used the Chapin seeder’s back wheel to firm the soil over the seeds.
  4. Watered the row moderately.

These seeds had not been soaked. The hope is we will get one or more of the scattered thunderstorms that are predicted for this afternoon.
