8/23/2021 – On the south end of the half row of Betternut butternuts about six seedlings had put on the second set of leaves but then shrivel, turned yellow and curled up. They have died or are beyond recovery.
The flea beetles have attacked them but no more so than the north end where the plants are 6-inches or taller. We have had the drip irrigation running for 90 minutes each day for a week or so while they germinated and then 60 minutes for the past 5 days as they looked like maybe they were staying too wet. The drip did not run yesterday and will not run it today.
Raked the dirt to loosen it and kill the weed seedlings. Sowed Betternut seeds in the gap and will see how they do.
