Sowed 3 Carrots and Beets

Gardening

10/25/2020 – Sowed in the former Marigold row—the eastmost row in the north half. Air temp was 71°.

Before sowing, cut a 3″+ deep V notch with the hoe and scattered in 1 quart of 8-8-8 with Borax/boron. Then dropped in 1 cup of bone meal in the 30′ where the beets will be sowed; i.e. south end. Used the garden rake to pull the dirt back on top of the fertilizer.

The seeds sowed are listed below from north to south.

  • Balero Carrots – 12′. Depth is about ¼”. They were pelleted and that made it easy for Mary to drop them in with uniform spacing.
  • Imperator Carrots – 12′. Depth is about ¼”. They will need to be thinned.
  • Danvers 126 – 12′. Depth is about ¼”. They will need to be thinned.
  • Detroit Red Beet – south half of the row about 30′. Used the hoe handle to drag a deep slot. Mary dropped in the seed.

All seeds were covered with the garden rake then rolled in with the back wide wheel of the Chapin Seeder.

Moderately watered the row.
