Getting the Garden Ready the First Time

Gardening

This post will include the days between the first ripping up the hay string and sod through plowing.

1/10/2019 – After months of planning and changes in the plans we finally began work in a small part of Dad’s “Garden”. Before the fence is built, I used the Ford 5600 and Ted’s box blade, with the rippers fully extended, to scrape the area 3-4″ deep and pull out the 20+ years of hay string.

As the rippers are about 12″ apart I went both ways to break up the sod and encounter as much hay string and webbing as possible. At the end of the day the process appeared to have work fairly well.

1/11/2019 – Crossed disked the ripped up sod with the “new” and now repaired, 5′ disk pulled by Fergie.
