Broke up rain-packed soil over seeds

Gardening

First Early AM work in the Large Garden

Mary & I worked in the large veggie garden while the sun was coming up behind the trees in the neighbor’s yard. We fertilized the tomatoes and bell pepper seedlings with fish emulsion, planted cucumber; watered pepper seeds and tomatoes.

I used the 4-tine hoe to break up the hardened soil packed by the two-day slow rain last week. The soil was too hard for many of the corn and pea seeds to push through. I should have realized that was the reason for what appeared to be spotty germination.
