First 2023 Daylily Rust Treatment and Rose Spray

Yard

5/20/2023 – This will be the first fungicide treatment for daylily rust and rose fungus and uses a combination spray of a contact and a systemic product. Our 2021 and 2020 post here has a lot of great info and was the guide for this treatment using Propiconazole 14.3 (the systemic) and Daconil (the contact fungicide). We repeated what was done then and used the recommended mixes.

We see a few yellowing leaves and a few rust-spore-infected leaves that have been removed during dead heading but it is time to treat them. What was done was as follows.

  • Mixed and sprayed the top and bottom of leaves of all daylilies with these amounts:
    • Propiconazole 14.3 – 0.5 tsp per one gallon of water.
    • Daconil – chlorothalonil – In past years used 2.5 Tbsp (approx. 8 tsp.) per 4 gallons of water. Therefore, 2 tsp/gallon. This year mix 3 tsp or 1 Tbsp per gallon of water

Did not add a surfactant as the Daconil is suppose to already have it.
