Peggy reported today that Ted cut the grass at Dad’s and pushed down some of the dying tallow trees I sprayed. Go Ted!
She said it has also rained over 3 inches in the past few weeks and everything is growing again.

“We have 3 inches in rain gauge for the last 7 days!!!!! It has rained for 2 days–slow easy rain. Nice! I see trees dying everywhere [from Tom spraying Remedy last trip]. Noticed those in midfield in low area dying. Grass is growing.”
It has been over four months since the farm had such a rain.
Worked on cleaning out the pole barn of many years of dropped implement parts and bent bolts and things that Dad did not need at some moment and did not get around to putting away–although he never had a good place to put things away. Continue reading
I walked north from the house down the lane to the little pasture where the long horn cows were grazing. There had been 6-8 head of almost grown heifers at the garden and back in the pasture there was 23-30. There were two very young calves.
Ted Strange has cut the grass and the large briars in the small field are gone.
When we were here last month the figs were just forming and the blueberries were light green hard balls. By the time we left on July 4th we had about 15 or so figs, after eating some, and a quart of blue berries. Continue reading
Peggy had cut the front and side yard last weekend and with no rain it did not grow much. Mary cut it again anyway as well as the pecan orchard over to the garden fence. That area next to the fence had grown too much for the riding lawn mower so I cut it first with the bush hog. Continue reading
Peggy and Frank had picked up the water pump with houses and belt for the MF210 from Southern Tractor.
After we unloaded the car I began working on the little tractor to install the pump. It was very hot as the setting sun was blasting into the shed. But that meant the light was good–just the sweat on my glasses was frustrating. Reminded me that Dad had to deal with that his whole life. I remember him with the sweat rag whipping his head and face all day. Continue reading
Peggy sent photos and reported that lighting struck and fence posts are on fire along the west fence line and the field is on fire. The VFD showed up as someone must have called them that saw the fire before Peg and Frank saw it. Continue reading
Peggy Davis Knippenberg, a Partner of Sundown Farms, announced:
” Come and pick blueberries at Blue Moon Farm. We have plenty sweet, plump berries! For more info go to www.bluemoonfarm-grandbay.com.”
Don’t forget how much blueberries can improve your health. If you pick them yourself and meet the growers then you know what you are eating. I never get a warm fuzzy feeling of confidence from the cooler at the grocery store.
I am VERY pleased to report that spraying Dow’s Remedy ™ on some of the tallow trees on May 23rd is working as the tree line now has clear evidence of dying trees. This photo is from Peggy’s yard looking toward the equipment barn–behind the brown trees. Continue reading
